Lisa Hart: Director - Dartmouth Dance Academy

Lisa HartLisa Hart became the Director/Owner of Dartmouth Dance Academy in 2007 and currently serves as the Director of the Atlantic branch of the National Board of Directors. Her unique career path, gathering experience as a dancer, teacher, child care worker and choreographer have culminated in the success of Dartmouth Dance as well as the award winning competition team, Fusion, for which she is both the director and a choreographer.

Lisa began her career as a dancer at Dartmouth Dance Academy, where she also trained for several years as an instructor. In order to excel in the technical aspects of dance as well as the creative and instructional, she studied child psychology at Mount Saint Vincent University. She finished her degree in the Western United States, performing with a professional dance troop that toured China and several states. It was here that Lisa began to appreciate the connection between movement, culture and identity. She learned that dance, as an art form, had athletic, creative and therapeutic benefits for all people with the desire to engage in expressive movement.

Lisa returned to Canada as a competitive dance teacher and choreographer for Danceworks in Alberta. Her pieces won accolades on the competition circuit, winning top marks for pieces such as Sweet Honey and Bells For Her. When she returned to Dartmouth Dance Academy she created the competitive dance team Footsteps which evolved into Fusion. Most recently she received top choreography awards for the Fusion pieces the Women Gather and Summertime.

Presently, Lisa Hart is a stage examiner for the Canadian Dance Teachers Association. She holds an associate in ballet and modern dance through the Canadian Dance Teachers Association, as well as a fellow in jazz and tap and a certification in acro. She is also the Dance Director of Maritime Varsity Academy.

Lisa has trained students who have gone on to pursue dance at schools like Peridant (in NYC), Toronto Dance Theatre, York, Randolph and Ryerson. She is continually striving to provide her students with the best possible dance education, allowing them to achieve their goals through the artistic expression of dance.
